Snowmobile and rider riding down a hill covered in fresh snow

Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Riders can choose to provide their own sleds and gear if it is appropriate for big mountain riding and in good working order. We also partner with RSC Powersports based in Cody, WY, who can provide sleds in both Cooke City, MT and Cody, WY. If you are booking sleds through RSC, once that is confirmed, B.R.A.G. will work with you and RSC to coordinate transporting sleds to the riding location.
  • Safety gear (beacons, probes, radio, shovel, and backpack for required; avi bags are optional) required safety gear can be rented from BRAG upon request.
  • Personal gear, including helmets, goggles, balaclava, gloves, boots, outerwear, base layers, mid layers are your personal responsibility.
  • B.R.A.G. wants to provide high quality customer service. To help plan your trip, you can reach out directly via our contact page prior to booking, or once booked, your guide will contact you directly to cover the following:
    • If already booked, your completed forms from the booking process (includes experience, number of riders, gear, etc.)
    • Lodging options – which B.R.A.G. can assist with
    • Meals – meals are not provided by B.R.A.G.

    • Draft itinerary for your trip – all trips are customized to your group and experience level, so conversations are key!
  • Morning meet up and pre-trip briefing (weather, terrain, gear check, avalanche report, etc.) We generally try to meet around 9 AM most days.
  • Gear up and head out to ride!
  • Depending on your experience level and type of trip, the riding portion of the day could include skills development and progression, avalanche safety, boondocking, tree-riding, touring, etc. There is a warming hut provided by our local riding association. We may use the hut as a base of operations if it works logistically with our daily plan.
  • We try to eat mid day. Lunch is not provided, so please come with your own meal and snacks and drinks that work for you. Alcohol is not permitted during or prior to riding.
  • We ride again in the afternoon, adjusting our plans to changing weather, snow, rider, and avalanche conditions.
  • Typically we start heading back to the parked vehicles in mid to late afternoon.
  • If you’ve booked multiple days, we make a plan for the following day to find new terrain and snow.
  • Yes we do! We operate to provide a highly customizable experience based on your group. We have more entry level experiences such as the Scenic Trail Tour, that follows only groomed routes on easier terrain. We provide expert level experience that include accessing deep powder and backcountry terrain. We provide services for every level in between to help you reach your riding goals and skill development level.
  • Customer service is at the heart of what we do. The guiding profession in the US has long been established as one where tipping is customary to acknowledge both the personal commitment and training your guide has put into your safety and well being. It also offers a way to show your gratitude and assessment of their service to you. A good starting point  to consider is between 8-10% of your total trip cost.
  • B.R.A.G operates under a Special Use Permit with the Shoshone National Forest on the Wyoming side of the Beartooths. However, our guides also work with a permitted outfitter in the Cooke City, Montana portion of the Beartooths, who operate under a Special Use Permit with the Custer Gallatin National Forest. Riding can be exceptional in both locations.  Snow conditions and weather can be very different between the two locations, despite their close proximity. If you want to plan your trip to include riding in both locales, please contact us directly.
  • Absolutely! Contact us directly if you have a group that is interested in a special focal area.
